Avanos Turkey

The town of Avanos is situated on the shores of the renowned Red River, Kizilirmak. The town is approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) away from Goreme. Avanos boasts a center that provides all the typical, modern, tourism-oriented amenities including a Hamam (Turkish Bath). A street market sets up in Avanos every Friday, so we recommend visiting on this day. This tented market offers everything from household items, clothing, fruits and vegetables, and more. From the outskirts, you can admire how Avanos winds through the hills that stretch away from the town, forming a maze of beautiful stone houses. Some have been restored, some have been repurposed, and some, unfortunately, have been left to decay. In some of the abandoned houses, you can still see the features of traditional Ottoman architecture, along with ancient decorations, ornaments, and wall paintings.
